In Memoriam

Sara Craighead
(1978 - 2013)

On being raised to the grade of junior Singer
1988 - aged 10

Sara aged 23

In memory of Sara who died suddenly on
Friday 12th April 2013 at the age of 35
following a protracted ailment.

Sara became a St. Mary's chorister at the age of 6 and was renowned for her diligence in maintaining a full attendance year by year.  Such dark clouds of illness that were to descend on Sara during her last decade of life would have overwhelmed many but Sara will be remembered as a friendly, quiet, patient yet resilient soul with stoicism that could have been the inspiration to others in similar circumstances due to her strong spirit.

Alas these positive attributes proved an insufficient buffer against the final onslaught of the terminal condition and her passing was swift but at home and in the bosom of her family.

Backing track - The Evening Prayer Duet
from the Opera
"Hansel & Gretel"
by Engelbert Humperdinck.

The English text is:-

“When at night I go to sleep,
Fourteen angels watch do keep:

Two my head are guarding,
Two my feet are guiding,

Two are on my right hand,
Two are on my left hand,

Two who warmly cover,
Two who o’er me hover,

Two to whom ‘tis given
to guide my steps to heaven.”

"Though thy former frame
Be taken from the sight of all,
Long shalt thou be remembered
By thy kin and such as knew thee well
And such as learnèd of thy deeds.
We who yet remain do wish thee well
And wish thee rest and joy
And give thee final greeting -
'Cyfarchiad a Ffarwel, Sara'."

Farewell, my young friend and sing for
an aeon 'til the very stars ring in reply!
