It is with great sadness that I announce the death of Moira Smith who passed over, aged 68, on the morning of Sunday 15th January 2006. Moira had led an active and indeed healthy life, singing as Soprano Leader at Dundee Parish Church (St. Mary's), as soloist with The Chandos Choir and as a member of the Edinburgh Festival Chorus. She featured quite regularly in recitals such as mentioned here with a wide repertoire of Art Songs of various lands. Her favourite outdoor activity was hill-walking. Unfortunately a dreadfully negative health scenario prevented her enjoying her retirement and it was a compounding of this constant suffering which claimed her life eventually. Nevertheless one can still visualise Moira as she was in her youth and maturity and hear her uniquely haunting quality of singing voice. She will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched and ever remembered by fellow singers and musicians.Farewell,
dear lady.
